Been chipping away at this piece for a couple weeks in between personal stuff, freelance, and work. Here’s my mock cover art for one of my favorite scary books as a kid, Alvin Schwartz’s ” In A Dark, Dark Room & Other Scary Stories.” Its a book that is on the banned book list. I remember in elementary school, every year for Halloween I’d check this book out. I loved it so much. Still do even as an adult. Hope one day to get to illustrate a scary book or Halloween themed book.
The Imagined Book Cover 2022 Challenge took place in November, but I had only caught it when it was halfway through. I really wanted to participate but I was working on other projects and could not fit it in my schedule. However, I did do a lot of thinking about the prompts for this challenge. Since I’m on holiday break from work and I don’t have any illustration projects or freelancing currently (which is rare so I’m taking advantage of this down time) I decided to get as many of these done before I start getting busy again.
Prompt 1: “The Three Sisters”: I knew I wanted to do a more modern YA cover look to this one with the three sisters in the tweens to early teens, but as witches. This one was a lot to work on.
I’m skipping to this next prompt cause I started sketching this when I found the challenge. Prompt 4. “The King, the Trombone and The Monkey”: Simplicity was the key for me on this one. Focused only on the three things on the title. I had imagined that the King was an opera singer and that the monkey would play the trombone for the King to sing to. Perhaps the King went through the kingdom looking for the right musician and instrument to duet with lol
As time permits, I’ll try to get to the other prompts on the list. If you search for #TheImaginedBookCover2022, you’ll be sure to find other amazing artists that actually did it on the week it came out and the list for the prompts for each mock book cover.
Been participating with these Draw This in Your Style challenges with one of my favorite illustrators, Rhode Montijo. He’s known for his vintage illustration style and also our shared love of Halloween and the Fall season. Here are a few illustrations I’ve done for this challenge the last several weeks leading to Halloween.
This little piggy is almost here! The fourth ITS NOT fairytale book, written by Josh Funk and illustrated by myself premieres November 1st, 2022. So be sure to get your copy online or at your local bookstore.
In this book, we’re not introduced to three, but four piglets. The fourth fights for control of her siblings’ fates against the narrator. Who will win? What happens with their houses? Who wants to be a pumpkin? All will be revealed in this book!
Hi Everyone. I know I’ve been MIA for awhile. Been busy with work, freelance, and a children’s book that I’m close to wrapping up. Been dying to work on something for myself so I decided why not go back to my 90s X-Men lineup and do a fan art piece for my favorite X-Men character, Storm.
With the recent news of Disney Plus bring back the 90s X-Men show, I thought it would be fun to work on the rest of my 90s X-Men Fan Art. So here is Jean Grey.
When I was a kid, X-Men was my favorite tv show. I’d wake up early every Saturday morning to record every episode on VHS tapes. When I got older, I had those VHS tapes converted to DVDs. They even have the original commercials. lol
This show awakened my love for comic books and even my desire to become an artist. So I’m excited that Disney will be bringing this group of X-Men for a whole new generation to meet.
Ho Ho Moooooooo. . .erry early Christmas! lol “Hey! You’re NOT Santa!” (Scholastic) by Ethan T Berlin and illustrated by myself will debut on September 7th, 2021. Be sure to preorder at your local bookstore or online. Its a cute and quirky story about a cow that stalls for Santa. So get your milk and cookies ready, hang those stockings, cause you never know, you may have a cow filling in for Santa this year!
