Last Fall I got to do some character designs for a commercial with ATKPLN. I’ve worked with them on a few other commercials before. This one was the first time I explored a whole lineup of characters in 3 different styles before settling on the one that we used for the commercial. “It’s Not Jack and the Beanstalk” is out now!!! Written by Josh Funk and illustrated by yours truly. One of my favorite spreads from the book was the title page. I wanted to establish right from the beginning Jack and Bessie’s friendship and to show them in a moment together before the story began. If you look really closely, you can see the silhouette of the Giant’s castle in the cloud shadows created by the moonlight. Also, there is a hidden fairy tale character in this spread. Probably the hardest one to find.
If you have not already purchased “It’s Not Jack and the Beanstalk”, its available now at your local bookstore. Or you can purchase it on Amazon at this link http://a.co/fFFuB3d
And because “It’s Not Jack and the Beanstalk” was so well received before it debut . . .
For this years Holiday Campaign with my agency The Bright Group, they asked a few of us to come up with an illustration or book cover design for the classic Christmas ghost story
Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol.” Ive always love ghost stories, so I was excited to do my piece for the campaign.
Two of my agents at the Bright Group asked me to participate in designing a cover from a list of stories. Luckily “The Wind in the Willows” by Kenneth Grahame was on it. I’ve always loved the book as a kid, and I’m now currently re reading it for my portfolio. I’d love to one day get a chance to illustrate the entire book. Maybe one day.
